Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym)
This course is aimed at individuals looking to gain entry into the fitness industry for employment as a gym instructor and/or to give you the knowledge and skills to progress on to the Level 3 Personal Trainer course.

Theory sessions -
Monday 6.30pm - 8:30pm
Practical sessions -
Saturdays 4.00pm - 7:30pm
(2 Saturdays per month only)
To train candidates to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and instruct safe and effective exercise programmes within a gymnasium or health club environment.
Unit 1 – Anatomy and physiology for exercise
Unit 2 – Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Unit 3 – Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Unit 4 – Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Unit 5 – Planning gym-based exercise
Unit 6 – Instructing gym-based exercise
– Some experience of gym-based exercise, preferably including free weights.
– The course requires some physical exertion and individual participation is essential.
– Candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
– Candidates should be 17 years or over or be in full time education studying a related qualification at ‘A’ level or equivalent.
The Active IQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 2 on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). It provides access on to The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2 and is a pre-requisite for the Award for Nutrition in Physical Activity (level 3).
